Grandma’s Treasure

NFS

Many years ago, when I was the height of my Grandma’s oak dining room table, I remember watching with great interest as she spread fabric on her big table, carefully marked it with a sliver of tailors chalk along with a hardware store wood ruler, then cut with her sewing shears. Grandma  stitched the quilt top on her Singer treadle machine before she hand quilted.  When Grandma passed, the quilt was passed to my parents, and when they passed to me, where it was carefully stored in my cedar chest for many years. After conferring with my sisters I decided to make this precious quilt into a jacket, to be used and enjoyed once again. Before cutting, I spot glued each line of hand stitching on both sides of the cutting line.  It’s is lined with jade batik and flannel as the original batting was worn thin by many years of use and washing. It’s brings back wonderful memories of my grandmother each time I wear it.
