Maurice, a celebration of light, colour, and song, was inspired by the rooster of Oleron, who triumphed in his court case, and continued to greet the sun with his kukrukaru. The background follows the pattern for a sashed half hexie quilt. Six half hexie are joined together to form a block. The rooster was fuse appliquéd, then stitched. Narrow black bias tape gives the rooster a stained glass effect.
