Trudy Cowan

Lying on my back, looking up through the branches of an old Ontario elm tree inspired this quilt.  The greens of spring, the golds and rusts of autumn are the memories of childhood. Now, knowing that so many of those stately elms are gone, I depicted them only in the threads of the stitched branches.

Many of the cotton & machine-thread lace leaves hang free of the surface and add life to the quilt.
