Attaching Art Work to Artist’s Canvas

I’ve worked out some steps when attaching your art work to the artist’s canvas. The most important step is to measure, measure, measure every step of the way.

Photo 1: I found two books that were the same depth as the artist canvas that I placed underneath so I could weight everything when I finished gluing.

Originally, I drew a line 3/8” from the edge of the artist canvas to help me center the art work which didn’t work but that line helped me when applying the glue.

Photo 2: Using a ruler I poked pins (“fence posts”) at every corner and along the edges at ¼” from the edge.

Photo 3: Finished “fence posts”.

Photo 4: Art work set in place. Originally my art work was 1/16” too long and it caused rippling so I adjusted the length. That’s why it’s so important to constantly measure what you’re doing.

Photo 5: Fold back half of the art work and apply the glue. I have archival glue which I used; matte medium also works. One can also use Velcro or double-sided tape to attach your work.

Photo 6: Glued end weighted and the bottom end ready to glue.

It is now 10:45 am one day after the Intent to Enter opened and the entries are already full. Very exciting for the organizers, but very disappointing for those of us who could not deal with this yesterday. Ah well …

That happened to me the first day of entry!

Thanks Karen! How are we to do the label on the back? Separate and glued on, or just written onto the back of the canvas?

      Hi,
I did my label on card stock which I glued to the back of the canvas.

Question about requirements: The brief says max 150 characters, which is only about 25 – 30 words. Is this correct, or should it be 150 words?

Also, If the system only accepts whole numbers, are we still to enter 9.5” x 19.5”
