R Leslie Forbes is a fibre artist living and working in Osoyoos B.C. Landscape, Architecture and Nature are recurring themes in her art. Now retired Leslie enjoyed rewarding careers in Education, Television, and Interior Design and Marketing in the Housing Industry. Her work has been juried into National and International exhibitions and has won numerous awards at these venues. Leslie had had her art featured in Quilting Magazines, the cover of the Canadian National juried show catalogue, the cover of Destinations Osoyoos Visitor’s Guide, and a Solo show at The Art Gallery Osoyoos. Her art quilts are held in private collections in Canada, United States, Denmark, and Australia.

ARTIST STATEMENT

From early childhood I have been surrounded and nourished by very creative women. I am a fourth-generation quilter and have explored Sewing, Smocking and Weaving from an early age.

Colour, Line, and texture feed my soul and there is no greater joy than exploring these in all my subject matter, whether from photographs taken on my travels or improvising on my design wall. Currently I dye or manipulate many of my own fabrics to achieve a larger palette of colour and texture. I am very interested in exploring reflections and layering in my artwork loving how the eye is drawn to the movement and depth these features create. Wool or silk roving is often featured within a fabric creation.

It is the process of creating, those moments when ideas flow, your skills matching those ideas and time is irrelevant, that keeps me motivated to be in my studio.
