Just a reminder that when you make your artwork for the Art Exchange please attach a label indicating Your Name, Title of the piece, Year and Location (2025 FAN Conference Nanaimo) and anything else you would like to say about it. As artwork exchange pieces are collected it’s always nice to remember which conference and who the artist is.

Gathering Light Art Exchange

Each of us as an artist has an inner ‘light’. We invite you to bring a representation of your inner light, ideas, enthusiasm and creativity to gather and share at our FAN Conference on Vancouver Island this September.
Some lights (artists) are like fireworks, some have the subtle glow of a campfire, some are a quiet sparkle that light the way for others to follow their pathway. Create an artwork that reflects your ‘light’. This could be as simple as shining a light on your current art practices or using light as the subject of your piece.
The tradition of our art exchange has been an exciting part of our FAN conferences. All artworks will be displayed during the conference for all to see and admire. An added perk for participating in this exchange means you can start a little art wall in your home. If you have not already done so, start your art wall this year by doing what you love to do: make art.
Gathering Light Art Exchange Guidelines
You must be a registered attendee at the 2025 conference to participate. You may submit one exchange piece, using FAN’s Intent to Enter Form in the Members Only – Exhibits area of the website. There is no fee to enter but you must indicate that you are paying by eTransfer for the form to submit properly. You do not need a Bio to enter but you must put something in that field – just enter the words Artist Bio.
- 2D artwork – maximum 50” perimeter.
- 3D artwork is encouraged – height or width to have a minimum of 3” and a maximum of 10”. There is no restriction on depth provided that proper consideration as been given to how the piece can be transported home by the recipient. If you are submitting 3D work, it should be easily carried by hand or stowable in a suitcase for recipients who travel by air to the conference.
- Materials: We are encouraging you to consider an environmentally sustainable approach in your materials, not a requirement. Consider using unconventional materials and reusing anything you have: clothing, paper, cardboard, old photos, plants, domestic packaging waste, reworking a piece of your own art, etc.
