FAN Sample Collection
When we were at the FAN Conference in September, there was a sample collection produced by SDA
(Surface Design Association). It was suggested in wacky ideas that FAN have a sample collection.
Susan Jensen, Barbara Macleod and Robin Fischer have volunteered to get it up and running.
What exactly is a swatch? It is a small sample of an artist’s work that showcases their unique style,
techniques and materials. This swatch collection is designed to inspire you and help you explore the
fascinating world of fibre art. They are perfect for exhibitions, local meetings and any gathering that
celebrates creativity.
The pieces should be 12” by 12”. They can be any technique you like, any fabric you like. The samples
will be a single piece of fabric with a label attached on the back identifying the artist, technique used,
etc. The label will be available on the FAN website for you to print off and attach to your sample
(please use card stock for the label). Serge or sew the edges to prevent unravelling. This is a sample,
not a finished piece of art. You are demonstrating technique. For those who do handwork, you may
want to use stabilizer for the stitches.
Please find the Label for the back of the sample in a google email to be downloaded, filled in and printed.
We hope to receive enough samples to show at our next Conference.
Please send your samples to:

are there any suggested timelines for entering? Do you want us to let you know that we intend to enter a sample?
No you do not have to let us know if you are sending a sample. There are no timelines for entering. We hope to have lots for the conference in Yellowknife.
Thanks for asking.
