As many of you know the BC Lower Mainland group meeting in person once a month to stay connected. We meet in Langley a central location. Most of us carpool allowing for lots of visit and art talk time.
This February we had a play day. Karen Johnson did a great job of organizing the event for us. In January a signup sheet was passed around, we signed up for products we had in our studios that we were willing to bring to the February meeting for exploration. Here is a PDF copy of what the signup sheet looked like. Station Exploration Sign Up
Karen also emailed each of us with a supply list for the day and a few instructions on what to do with the products when we arrived at the meeting. Here is a PDF copy of the supply list. Station Exploration Supply List
We spent the entire morning trying out products that were not in our own studios. it was great to be able to talk to the person who brought the product to find out more information on how they used the item in their art practice. Here is a sample of what Karen’s sample sheets looked like.

We all have products we bought that we thought we would use and never have. This type of exploration gave us artists an opportunity to try different medium allowing us time to determine if we want to purchasing some or not.
If you are looking for a fun activity to do with your regional group I would highly recommend this one.
I learned a lot about the products and I started a notebook to keep and label my samples in (instead of my usual random assortment of pieces of cloth I couldn’t remember how or when or what I tried!).
