Marianne Parsons
About Marianne Parsons
Marianne Parsons began sewing as a child, when it was considered important for every prairie girl to learn all forms of needlework and mending. In the late ’80’s, she began teaching modern embroidery in Okanagan communities, and soon joined the newly formed Double O Quilters Guild where she began a 2nd career teaching quilt design and fiber art techniques. Her work has been juried into national and international exhibitions.
Creating art with fabric and fiber is her chosen form of expression. She’s drawn to pictorial work and the texture and techniques that achieve this, either by hand or machine. Techniques borrowed from other art mediums and synthetic fibres are current sources of inspiration. Repurposed materials often feature in her soft sculptures as these fabrics symbolize the freedom to play.
