About Cindi Plant
Bio
Cindi grew up in Saskatchewan, studied Interior Design in Manitoba and worked in the private design sector before beginning a long career in design education in Alberta’s College system. While her formal education has provided certain design skills, creating art continues to captivate, inspire and at times elude her.
She works primarily intuitively, taking inspiration from nature, pattern, texture and colour, incorporating fabric dyeing and various printing methods to create her pieces. Since coming across a quote attributed to Eric Liddell, the Scottish 1924 Olympian, which expresses perfectly how Cindi feels about art making, she has borrowed and adapted it for herself. That is: “God has made me artistic and when I make art, I feel His pleasure”
Retired from “work”, she currently pursues textile art and mixed media collage fulltime, always endeavoring to create artwork that is uplifting to the spirit, leaving the viewer happier having experienced it.
Artist Statement
Inspired by the notion of bringing an idea into a physical, tangible reality, I especially enjoy how an artwork evolves to become itself. I seek to bring that vague, fleeting, conceptual something into a piece with substance; one that can be touched and held.
